Job Description

Job Summary

Lotte Chemical USA Corporation is seeking a highly skilled Process Engineering Manager to lead our process engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and optimizing lean manufacturing processes to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of plant layouts and rearrangement of facilities, equipment, and operations to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Ensure the implementation of Process Safety Management (PSM) policies and procedures, and maintain processes as necessary.
  • Stay informed on new manufacturing technologies and equipment, and identify opportunities to reduce costs through more efficient design and processes.
  • Analyze process changes and assess their impact on production and product, and implement process improvements to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
  • Apply lean manufacturing principles to consider continuous improvement for new designs and updates to current designs.
  • Support current and new product introductions through system designs and updates as required, and look for cost savings and other cost reduction opportunities.
  • Review and ensure that vendors and subcontractors provide products, parts, and services according to required specifications, and assist in assessing vendors/subcontractors under consideration.
  • Work with operations to implement quality and process improvements and new product development, and utilize scientific principles to determine process efficiencies.
  • Oversee key projects, processes, and performance reports, data, and analyses, and document all work to ensure correct document iteration for the document control system.
  • Direct the work of Process Engineers assigned to the team, manage workload, performance, and day-to-day supervision of team members, and coach team members for personal improvement and potential advancement.
  • Partner with other team managers to determine appropriate engineering resources for projects and processes, considering project cost, size, and complexity.
  • Act as a contact to Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) companies for capital expenditure (capex) and expense projects.
  • Develop an annual capital plan and budget for process engineering, ensure spending stays within plan, track spending, and support in writing and reporting to management any variances in costs, schedules, and overall plans.
  • Work with other technical managers to define capital and expense project priorities and appropriate resources, and maintain monthly, quarterly, and annual operations reports, delivering data to appropriate management.
  • Employ key resources within Operations and other departments to identify and lead Continuous Improvement programs, promoting plans to improve safety, quality, cost, and reliability.
  • Perform gap analyses to identify future technological opportunities for processes or the entire plant.
  • Evaluate process efficiency, quality, and safety, and make suggestions for improvements as needed.
  • Support incident investigations, provide suggestions as appropriate, and participate in risk management reviews.
  • Abide by all safety procedures and practices applicable to the location and position, participate in appropriate safety training, demonstrate commitment to and support of Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security (EHSS) principles and values, and champion safety at all times.
  • Perform other duties assigned by management that generally fall within the expected scope of this position.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in chemical manufacturing.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in a process engineering environment with project concentration.
  • Proficiency in process design.
  • Minimum of 8 years' leadership experience.
  • Experience as a Process Engineer.
  • Current knowledge of process engineering design, project implementation, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements for engineering design.
  • Proven ability to build trusting relationships, manage, motivate, coach, and work with others.
  • Proven organizational skills, ability to prioritize in a multi-tasking arena, goal-oriented, influencing, and negotiation skills.
  • Productive time management skills required.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Ability to coach and mentor others in the areas of project management, technology, and process design.
  • High level of enthusiasm and motivation skills required.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and follow through on assignments.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, ability to use database systems, CAD software, and other programs and applications used by this position and at Lotte Chemical USA Corporation.
  • Fluent in the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking, ability to read and write at a minimum of high school level, and ability to clearly communicate to all levels in the organization.

Education Requirement

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, preferably Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer Certification highly desirable.
  • Six Sigma Certification a plus.

Work Environment

This position requires an employee to be in an office environment as well as exposed to outside elements. Most extreme elements are heat in the summer months of up to 100°F and some exposure to cold of generally no less than 0°F in the winter months. There will be exposure to various chemicals and compounds, including fumes and smells, some of them hazardous. The employee may enter confined spaces and work in elevated environments. The employee must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required by the location. General office noise may be experienced and louder sounds and vibrations when outside. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. All environments are safe with appropriate PPE.

Physical Demands

This position requires the employee to regularly walk, sit, speak, and hear. The employee is required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and may be required, on occasion, to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee may be required to climb ladders/storage tanks up to 50' in height. The employee may be required to enter confined spaces. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty (20) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee may be required to travel by air, rail, bus, or car.
