Position Overview

Applied Research Associates is in search of a Senior Engineer specializing in autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) systems to contribute to advanced modeling, simulation, and testing initiatives for the U.S. Navy. We are looking for a professional with expertise in unmanned underwater vehicle systems, including both remotely operated and autonomous vehicles, as well as knowledge in machine learning and artificial intelligence to support our research team in enhancing existing UUV capabilities and exploring innovative solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Senior Engineer, you will work collaboratively with a team of experts on the design, architecture, testing, and development of UUVs. Your role will involve:

  • Engaging in the development and execution of UUV testing protocols and evaluations aimed at refining models and simulations.
  • Conducting thorough data analysis and troubleshooting related to UUV operations.
  • Preparing comprehensive research reports, technical proposals, and formal presentations, as well as interpreting complex data sets.

Essential Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, candidates must possess:

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline, along with 2-4 years of relevant experience in unmanned underwater vehicle systems.
  • U.S. Citizenship and the capability to secure a DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Proficiency in both theoretical and practical aspects of UUV operations, covering mechanical, electrical, hardware, software, sensors, and control systems.
  • Experience with underwater data collection using custom or third-party sensor technologies.
  • Familiarity with UUV design, modification, testing, and operational procedures.
  • Competence in utilizing MS Office Suite effectively.
  • The ability to work autonomously or as part of a diverse team.

Preferred Qualifications:

Additional experience that would be advantageous includes:

  • Prior involvement with U.S. Navy UUVs or similar platforms.
  • Experience with the Naval Autonomy Test System (NATS) and related integrated management systems.
  • Development and utilization of Tactical Awareness Kit (TAK) applications.
  • Conducting tests for digital twin environments and surveying underwater settings for data collection.
  • Possession of an active DoD Secret security clearance.
