Job Overview

The Project Engineer Level IV plays a pivotal role in the coordination of engineering support across various disciplines, subcontractors, and assigned personnel. This position is tasked with developing project timelines, evaluating proposed modifications, crafting technical solutions, and accurately estimating the resources required for new initiatives and alterations. The Project Engineer will produce high-level assessments of effort and project timelines, progressively refining these details prior to project approval and execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate detailed, task-oriented plans for executing large-scale projects, ensuring that these plans are integrated into the Engineering Department's overall schedule.
  • Provide comprehensive scheduling information to the Project Engineering Manager, including budgeted hours and required completion dates.
  • Maintain active tracking of project tasks, reporting any deviations from the plan and proposing necessary adjustments.
  • Generate engineering estimates for project durations and budgets.
  • Act as the engineering representative in preparing responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) from commercial or governmental entities.
  • Communicate with supervisors and relevant managers regarding any delays or complications, suggesting solutions to mitigate schedule and budget impacts.
  • Facilitate meetings aimed at resolving obstacles related to assigned projects, involving diverse participants from various shipyard functions.

Supervisory Duties
  • Oversee assigned engineering resources indirectly, ensuring project completion through effective planning, task assignment, and performance appraisal.
  • Provide mentorship to junior engineers and support the hiring process.

Qualifications
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in an engineering role.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a CONFIDENTIAL security clearance.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret technical documents and regulations.
  • Effective communication skills for presenting information to senior management.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software such as FORAN, AVEVA, or similar.
  • Ability to navigate a fast-paced work environment while maintaining attention to detail.

Desired Skills
  • Experience managing projects with teams of 20 or more.
  • In-depth understanding of marine vessel engineering and design processes.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements in the shipbuilding industry.

Education Requirements
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or Naval Architecture from an ABET-accredited institution (advanced degree preferred) with at least 6 years of relevant Project Engineering or Project Management experience.

Working Conditions

This role involves both office and fieldwork, with responsibilities including:
  • Office-based tasks with occasional ship visits.
  • Exposure to airborne dust and potential confined spaces.

Physical Requirements

This position is classified as light physical work, requiring:
  • Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
  • Frequent standing and repetitive arm movements.
