Key Responsibilities

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for developing mechanical systems designs and performing design integration for government or commercial ship design initiatives. This role will involve working both independently and collaboratively with other engineers within the department, procurement teams, and various engineering disciplines, alongside Project Management. Research and analysis responsibilities may include project evaluation and monitoring, producing and analyzing calculations, ensuring compliance with government regulations, and conducting relevant data analysis for project tasks. Additional responsibilities may encompass scoping changes, assessing impacts on design documentation, and creating or modifying design drawings using AutoCAD, as well as maintaining spreadsheets and conducting discipline-specific calculations.

Collaboration and Coordination

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will work closely with team members to:

  • Review documentation, piping and HVAC diagrams, mechanical systems, equipment designs, and performance analyses.
  • Coordinate with project stakeholders to ensure that quality deliverables are submitted in accordance with contract specifications.
  • Produce detailed action plans and deficiency reports that support project objectives and timelines.
  • Assist with construction planning and support activities.
  • Facilitate the integration of design in production and collaborate closely with shipyard personnel.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Leadership Responsibilities: May include team leadership duties over staff and mentorship of junior engineers.

Reporting Structure: This position will report to the Mechanical Engineering Department Manager.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Marine Engineering

Required Qualifications:
  • Over 15 years of experience in commercial marine or government shipbuilding programs.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Capability to review and direct the work of other engineers.
  • Proficient in interpreting contract requirements and specifications.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office applications and AutoCAD.
  • Adept at learning department-specific software for various analyses.
Citizenship Requirement: U.S. Citizenship or a Permanent Resident Card is mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications:

The following knowledge, skills, abilities, and experiences are preferred but not required:
  • Experience with CDRL Development.
  • Experience with ABS NVR is highly desirable.
Work Environment: This position is categorized as OFFICE WORK.
