Overview:
This job description outlines the essential functions and responsibilities associated with the Senior Mechanical Engineer position at Eastern Shipbuilding Group Inc. Core Responsibilities:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the design and integration of mechanical systems for government and commercial shipbuilding projects. This role involves independent work as well as collaboration with other engineers, procurement teams, and project management. Key functions include:

  • Conducting thorough evaluations and monitoring of projects.
  • Producing and analyzing calculations to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Performing data analysis pertinent to project tasks.
  • Creating and modifying design drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Maintaining spreadsheets and conducting discipline-specific calculations.

Collaboration:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will engage closely with team members to:
  • Review technical documents, piping and HVAC diagrams, and mechanical system designs.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure quality deliverables meet contract specifications.
  • Develop detailed action plans and deficiency reports to support project objectives.
  • Assist in planning construction activities.
  • Facilitate the integration of designs during production phases.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Leadership Responsibilities:
This position may involve leading a team and mentoring junior engineers.

Reporting Structure:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will report directly to the Mechanical Engineering Department Manager.

Qualifications:
Required:
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in commercial marine or government shipbuilding.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of accuracy.
  • Capability to review and guide the work of other engineers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
  • Willingness to learn department-specific software for various analyses.

Citizenship:
U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident status is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with CDRL Development and familiarity with ABS NVR is advantageous.

Work Environment:
This role is primarily office-based.

Physical Requirements:
The physical demands of this position include:
  • Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
  • Frequent standing and repetitive movements.
  • Ability to sit with back support.
