Description:
Oversee, coordinate, and manage a comprehensive district-wide Food Service Program, ensuring cost efficiency and adherence to District, State, and Federal standards regarding nutrition, sanitation, safety, and documentation; supervise and assess the performance of designated staff.
Job Summary: Oversee and manage a large-scale Food Service program; evaluate effectiveness and ensure compliance with District, State, and Federal regulations, safety, and sanitation protocols. Develop and supervise master menu planning, ensuring adherence to nutritional regulations and requirements. Recruit food service personnel; assign duties, schedule shifts, and evaluate employee performance; determine necessary reassignments, disciplinary actions, or terminations as needed. Assist in the formulation of the Food Service budget; monitor and control expenditures; analyze financial and operational reports. Prepare high-quality meals and utilize record-keeping and ordering systems in line with District guidelines; instruct, train, and support staff in proper food handling, equipment usage, and maintaining high sanitation and safety standards. Collaborate with school leadership and Food Service Supervisors to establish or amend operational policies; address issues related to food quality, labor costs, and equipment usage; liaise with fiscal services, purchasing, warehouse, maintenance, and human resources to synchronize functions with Food Service Operations. Supervise and engage in food preparation and distribution to District students and staff; organize catered events such as meetings and activities; coordinate food service operations with school events to enhance community relations and boost student participation. Compile various food service records and reports; review time sheets, financial statements, operational reports, inventory, and cost control records. Draft specifications for food supply and equipment procurement; evaluate bids, make purchases, and provide recommendations as necessary. Conduct staff meetings to discuss and clarify operational policies; plan and lead in-service workshops and training sessions for food service staff. Organize, schedule, and coordinate special events utilizing cafeteria facilities; calculate costs of labor, supplies, and food; assign staff and order necessary food items. Perform related duties as assigned. Qualifications: Knowledge Of: Meal production planning and scheduling Relevant District, Federal, and State laws, rules, and regulations concerning food service. Large-scale food merchandising. Nutrition, sanitation, and operational regulations and requirements. Procedures for ordering, receiving, storing, and inventorying food and supplies. Budget development and management. District organization, operations, policies, and objectives. Record-keeping methodologies. Principles and practices of supervision and training. Effective oral and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills characterized by tact, patience, and courtesy. Inventory management methods and practices.

Ability to:

Plan, coordinate, and manage a large district Food Service program. Ensure compliance with District, State, and Federal food service requirements. Plan and oversee master menu development. Train others in large-scale food preparation and serving. Interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Schedule, supervise, and evaluate staff performance. Assess situations accurately and implement effective solutions. Meet deadlines and maintain schedules. Establish and sustain cooperative and effective working relationships. Operate a computer terminal as required. Organize and prioritize work effectively. Maintain accurate records and generate reports. Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms. Work independently with minimal supervision. High School Diploma or Certificate and four years of experience in food service operations.

Valid Food Service Permit issued by the Department of Health; completion of a training course for certification of beginning school food service personnel as prescribed in KAR 6:.

Working Conditions: Work is performed while standing, sitting, and/or walking. Requires effective communication using speech, vision, and hearing. Requires manual dexterity for simple grasping and fine manipulations. Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching. Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, not exceeding one third of body weight.
