Position Summary

The role of the Health and Safety Manager encompasses a variety of essential responsibilities, which may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in the formulation of tailored safety programs for specific sites.
  • Conducting unannounced safety audits and analyzing outcomes through statistical methods, audit reports, and feedback.
  • Collaborating with on-site subcontractors and suppliers to ensure compliance.
  • Building rapport with clients' safety personnel.
  • Facilitating site safety orientations for new personnel.
  • Coordinating site-specific substance abuse testing as necessary.
  • Regularly auditing safety compliance on-site.
  • Ensuring the efficient and safe operation of the department.
  • Demonstrating a commitment to ongoing process improvement.
  • Promoting safety as a fundamental priority within the organization, including the consistent use of personal protective equipment.
  • Meeting deadlines and adhering to policies while maintaining excellent attendance.
  • Ensuring client satisfaction through effective issue resolution.
  • Exhibiting strong interpersonal skills by assisting colleagues in achieving organizational goals.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to exemplify the Flintco Ethos, fostering a high level of performance and integrity. Proficiency in reading, analyzing, and interpreting business literature, professional journals, technical procedures, and regulatory guidelines is essential. The candidate should be capable of drafting reports and business correspondence, presenting information effectively, and responding to inquiries from various stakeholders. Strong mathematical skills, including the application of statistical concepts, are required to solve practical problems in diverse situations.

Education:

A Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Health & Safety, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.

Experience:

A minimum of 5 years of experience in Health and Safety within the construction sector, or 10 to 15 years of overall construction experience is required. Experience with high-rise projects is advantageous.

Certifications:

CHST, ASP, or CHSO certifications are mandatory. First Aid/CPR/AED certifications are required, along with a 30-hour OSHA certification.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands of this position require the employee to regularly stand, walk, use hands for various tasks, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and communicate effectively. The employee may occasionally need to lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.

Work Environment:

The work environment is designed to be safe and healthy, with appropriate heating, cooling, and lighting. Employees may encounter various conditions, including exposure to moving machinery, high places, and potentially hazardous materials. Noise levels in the work environment may be elevated.
