Job Overview:

The Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services is seeking a dedicated professional to perform advanced project management tasks focused on the interpretation and enforcement of Life Safety Codes and related standards, including the International Building Code and Joint Commission accreditation standards. This role is essential in ensuring compliance within State Supported Living Centers and State Hospitals.

Responsibilities include collaborating with safety officers and maintenance personnel to coordinate the planning and execution of physical plant maintenance and renovations. The position entails overseeing projects from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to safety codes and standards.


Key Responsibilities:

- Regularly attend work and fulfill additional duties as assigned in accordance with agency policies.

- Monitor and address code violations, assist in drafting written responses, and review correction plans to meet life/safety requirements as mandated by regulatory agencies.

- Evaluate project designs to confirm compliance with life/safety standards and relevant regulations.

- Support the oversight and assessment of capital construction projects related to life/safety to ensure compliance, including post-construction reviews.

- Communicate code requirements effectively to architects, engineers, and contractors, ensuring clarity regarding the applicability of codes to facility operations.

(15%)

- Provide training sessions on the interpretation and enforcement of applicable codes and standards for facility staff.

(15%)

- Conduct surveys of existing facilities to identify potential code violations and enforce compliance.

(5%)

- Undertake additional responsibilities for special departmental projects as necessary.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Comprehensive understanding of project management principles related to life/safety codes in healthcare settings and the evaluation of third-party vendor plans and installations.

- Proficiency in project monitoring and the ability to adapt to changes in building systems, along with strong computer skills.


- Capability to manage project activities, set objectives, exercise sound judgment, analyze complex data, and communicate effectively.
