Position Overview:

The Lead Mechanical Systems Engineer at Ellaway Blues Consulting is tasked with delivering advanced technical guidance and support in the strategic planning, upkeep, troubleshooting, and project oversight of all mechanical systems within the facility. This role includes spearheading quality assurance initiatives during equipment repairs and supervising the work executed by contractors and technical staff. As a Subject Matter Expert (SME), the Lead Mechanical Systems Engineer is essential in assessing mechanical systems and providing direction to the engineering team.

This position also encompasses mentorship and leadership duties, aiding the team in formulating and executing policies, plans, budgets, and initiatives concerning Health, Safety, Security & Environmental (HSSE) matters, while promoting the Organizational & Cultural development of the Engineering Department and other business sectors.

  • Collaborate with colleagues on organizational Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) initiatives, consistently striving to enhance workplace safety.
  • Design and implement maintenance engineering strategies to guarantee the reliability and availability of both static and rotating equipment throughout the design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning phases.
  • Provide technical oversight and monitoring of all critical fixed mechanical assets in the operational facilities, including piping and structural components.
  • Act as the Mechanical Integrity and technical liaison for inspections of fixed equipment mechanical integrity.
  • Monitor and report on fixed equipment performance and reliability using Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to improve efficiency and minimize downtime.
  • Offer technical support for projects, including large-scale expansions, capital initiatives, and modifications.
  • Ensure that capital and operational projects are executed safely, within budget, on schedule, and in accordance with procurement policies and procedures.
  • Participate in, and occasionally lead, pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, including witnessing equipment installations.
  • Facilitate discussions and provide engineering solutions to routine plant maintenance challenges.
  • Diagnose equipment-related issues and efficiency problems.
  • Review reports generated by engineers and assist in completing activities and troubleshooting.
  • Guide and mentor junior engineers.
  • Examine plant equipment operating parameters and initiate technical discussions with operations to optimize functionality.
  • Lead plant trip assessment teams to identify root causes and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Ensure equipment history records are updated with details such as downtime, cause codes, priority codes, man-hours, materials used, and costs incurred.
  • Review and suggest modifications to the annual planned maintenance programs and equipment audits to inform future programs.
  • Implement approved reliability and plant improvement projects within budget and schedule constraints.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in developing and executing long-term equipment planning programs, such as end-of-life assessments and repair-or-replace decisions for plant equipment and assets.
  • Identify plant threats through Condition Monitoring programs and trend analysis.
  • Generate reliability reports based on completed inspections.
  • Troubleshoot and conduct diagnostic inspections on plant equipment.
  • Support turnaround jobs, ensuring safety, quality, schedule adherence, and budget compliance.
  • Oversee QA/QC for off-site repairs and rebuilds.
  • Maintain a professional image at all times with clients and vendors, upholding a positive reputation for the company.
  • Adhere to all relevant company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations:

  • Preferred certifications include API 510, API 570, API 653, API 580, CMRP, CRE, and CRL.

Education, Experience, and/or Training:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in a process plant environment is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of static and rotating equipment, maintenance, and reliability engineering is required.
  • Knowledge of Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPS) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Project Management is preferred.
  • Experience leading teams is preferred.
