Position Overview

The role of the Chief Mechanic is pivotal in ensuring the seamless operation of mechanical systems within our offshore projects. This position requires a proactive leader who can effectively manage mechanical teams and optimize equipment performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Support: Collaborate with the Operations Superintendent to plan surveys, manage contracts, and address any crises that may arise.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and propose enhancements to existing systems and procedures to boost efficiency.
  • Equipment Management: Champion the introduction of innovative mechanical seismic equipment, working closely with Innovation and Technical Support teams.
  • Cross-Departmental Assistance: Provide mechanical expertise to other departments as needed.
  • Crew Performance: Contribute to the evaluation of crew performance and manage the mechanical team effectively.
  • Team Development: Assess team members' skills in collaboration with the Operations Superintendent, and create individual development plans tailored to their needs.
  • Task Management: Define, prioritize, and supervise departmental tasks to ensure efficient operations.
  • Productivity Maximization: Strive to enhance crew productivity through the safe and efficient operation of mechanical equipment, adhering to established work instructions and procedures.
  • Maintenance Oversight: Implement and manage a comprehensive maintenance plan based on recommendations and supplier manuals, ensuring all equipment is well-maintained.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance and monitor key performance indicators, taking corrective actions as necessary.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee spare parts and stock inventories, ensuring timely ordering and tracking of received shipments.
  • Client Interaction: Advise the Operations Superintendent on technical matters related to mechanical equipment during client engagements.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A degree from an Engineering School or a Technician Diploma in General Mechanics, Hydraulic, or Electro-mechanics.
  • Familiarity with mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems, including:
    • Electric motors and AC drive winch systems.
    • Active heave compensated systems.
    • Offshore cranes and related LARS systems.
    • Welding techniques for aluminum and stainless steel.
    • Knowledge of seismic operations and subsea systems.
  • Strong English communication skills, both spoken and written, with the ability to produce clear technical reports.
  • Experience in marine back deck operations, including cranes, winches, and lifting appliances.
  • A background in maintenance management and reporting systems.

Additionally, candidates with military experience or vocational training in related fields such as engineering or mechanics are encouraged to apply.
