Position Overview

The Chief Mechanic plays a pivotal role in ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of mechanical operations within the organization. This position involves a blend of technical expertise and leadership skills to enhance crew performance and maintain high standards of mechanical integrity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Support: Collaborate with the Operations Superintendent to facilitate survey planning, manage contracts, and address crisis situations.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and propose enhancements to existing systems and procedures to optimize operations.
  • Equipment Innovation: Lead the introduction of new or redesigned mechanical seismic equipment, working closely with Innovation and Technical Support teams.
  • Cross-Departmental Assistance: Provide mechanical expertise to other departments as needed.
  • Crew Performance Management: Contribute to the evaluation of crew performance and manage the Mechanical team effectively.
  • Team Development: Assess personnel requirements in collaboration with the Operations Superintendent and create individual development plans for team members.
  • Task Supervision: Define, prioritize, and oversee departmental tasks to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Productivity Maximization: Ensure safe and efficient operation of mechanical equipment in accordance with established procedures, collaborating with other departments as necessary.
  • Maintenance Management: Implement and oversee a comprehensive maintenance plan, ensuring all mechanical equipment is maintained according to supplier guidelines and operational needs.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance and monitor key performance indicators to drive corrective actions.
  • Spare Parts Management: Oversee inventory and procurement of spare parts, ensuring timely availability to support operations.
  • Client Interaction: Advise the Operations Superintendent on technical matters related to mechanical equipment during client engagements.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a background in engineering or a relevant technical field, with experience in:

  • Mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Operational knowledge of offshore cranes and related systems.
  • Welding techniques and seismic operations.
  • Survey planning and marine back deck operations.
  • Maintenance management systems and reporting.
  • Proficient English communication skills, both written and spoken.

Additionally, candidates with military or vocational training in engineering, mechanics, or related fields are encouraged to apply. The ability to adapt to international environments and work collaboratively within a team is essential.

Note: This position requires offshore rotation.
