Sentara Health is seeking a Senior Cybersecurity Executive to lead its information security initiatives. This remote position is available for residents of select states.

The Senior Cybersecurity Executive will be a dynamic, results-driven leader tasked with managing vital components of Sentara Health's cybersecurity framework. Reporting directly to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), this role is essential in ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Sentara Health's technological and informational assets. The executive will protect sensitive organizational data, systems, and networks from cyber threats while ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and industry best practices. This leader must possess a robust blend of technical acumen, strategic insight, and strong communication abilities. A deep understanding of the business landscape is crucial to maintain Sentara Health's technology and data in a secure and operational state.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Security Development:

  • Collaborate with the CISO to formulate and execute the cybersecurity strategy and growth initiatives for Sentara Health.
  • Work alongside senior management and stakeholders to synchronize cybersecurity efforts with business goals.
  • Enhance operational excellence and the effectiveness of the cybersecurity program.

Cybersecurity Operations Oversight:

  • Lead and advance the Sentara Health Security Operations Center (SOC) both strategically and tactically.
  • Manage daily security operations, including monitoring, threat detection, and incident response.
  • Ensure the efficacy of security measures and technologies to counteract emerging threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Partner with internal teams and external entities to bolster security posture and response capabilities.

Incident Management:

  • Direct and coordinate incident response activities to swiftly identify, contain, and mitigate security breaches.
  • Develop and maintain incident response protocols and playbooks to streamline response efforts.
  • Conduct post-incident evaluations to determine root causes and implement corrective measures.

Business Continuity Planning:

  • Create a technology-focused business continuity strategy to ensure Sentara Health's resilience against disruptive events.
  • Oversee business continuity testing and exercises to validate the effectiveness of plans and procedures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate continuity requirements into business operations.

Business Line Security Management:

  • Develop and operationalize the Business Information Security Officer (BISO) model across various sectors.
  • Ensure BISOs are integrated within business units to drive compliance and mitigate risks.
  • Provide guidance to BISOs in implementing security best practices and ensuring adherence to policies.
  • Facilitate ongoing communication between BISOs and central cybersecurity functions.

Governance and Oversight:

  • Chair the Cyber Council to oversee strategic security initiatives.
  • Engage with executive leadership to communicate security risks and priorities.
  • Align security objectives with business goals through effective governance.

Performance Reporting:

  • Prepare and present detailed security metrics and reports to the Board of Directors and executive leadership.
  • Provide insights on security trends and performance metrics to support informed decision-making.
  • Ensure accountability by tracking key performance indicators related to security posture.

Commercial Cybersecurity Services:

  • Lead the development of commercial cybersecurity strategies and solutions for various customer segments.
  • Drive initiatives to design and scale innovative revenue-generating cybersecurity services.

Compliance Management:

  • Monitor regulatory standards to ensure compliance with applicable laws.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Information Security, or a related discipline.
  • Relevant certifications such as CISSP or CISM are preferred.
  • Over 15 years of experience in information security, focusing on security operations and risk management.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in managing teams and fostering collaboration.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards in information security.
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of conveying complex security concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to translate business needs into effective security solutions.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to evolving challenges.
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of building high-performing security teams.
  • Experience with Agile, LEAN, or Six Sigma methodologies is a plus.
