Job Description

Job Title: Pharmacy Director

Job Summary:

The Pharmacy Director is a key leadership role responsible for the strategic direction and management of the Pharmacy Department at ICONMA. This position requires a strong leader with a developer mindset to help grow and develop the leadership team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the administrative and clinical direction of programs and services
  • Ensure operations are efficient for each program, service, and site
  • Coordinate care, treatment, and service processes among programs, services, sites, and departments
  • Maintain awareness of community needs and address them appropriately
  • Create an environment that enables the Medical Center to fulfill its Mission and meet Strategic Initiatives
  • Communicate mission and initiatives to staff
  • Implement and coordinate drug control in the process of providing pharmaceutical care for patients
  • Plan, organize, and supervise the clinical, distributive, financial, and administrative activities of the Pharmacy Department
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies and codes, including Joint Commission
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve patient care and safety
  • Collaborate with finance, legal, and senior leadership to integrate a comprehensive and compliant 340B program
  • Provide leadership for each organizational program, service, site, or department in areas of responsibility
  • Ensure consistency in interpretation and application of the patient care delivery model, mission, vision, and beliefs and behaviors of the organization
  • Maintain scope of services to meet the needs and expectations of patients, families, and referral sources/customers
  • Develop programs and services based on needs analysis and facilitate their implementation and evaluation
  • Assess the usage of pharmaceuticals and other supplies in terms of volumes, cost, and alternative less costly available items
  • Ensure that clinical staff resources and assignments are consistent with meeting patient care needs
  • Function as a preceptor for pharmacy students as requested
  • Resolve concerns by patients, families, staff, and physicians; promote medical staff relationships
  • Communicate patient and employee satisfaction survey results and develop action plans for improvement
  • Ensure licenses, certifications, and competencies of staff are maintained on a current basis and in compliance with medical center, state, and federal regulations
  • Ensure orientation, in-service education, and continuing education of all persons in areas of responsibility
  • Review and select products for primary, secondary, and individual pharmacy contracts
  • Initiate requests for pricing agreements from vendors, as appropriate, to obtain favorable pricing and reduce cost for pharmaceuticals and related supplies
  • Ensure performance appraisals for all management and staff are completed with meaningful feedback and within established time frame
  • Maintain professional dialogues with local, state, and national pharmacy professional organizations, physicians, and other medical personnel on pertinent issues
  • Maintain effective recruitment and retention plans for staffing
  • Serve as a contributing member on assigned committees and task forces; promote and facilitate collaborative problem solving
  • Maintain and continually develop own professional competence through attendance at seminars, conferences, professional associations, and other activities
  • Provide leadership and participate in Medical Center improvement initiatives and teams as assigned
  • Perform other related projects and duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) required
  • Masters of Science in Hospital Pharmacy (Administration), MBA, or MHA required; or willing to obtain within 36 months of hire date
  • Pharmacist licensure in the State of Nebraska required
  • Minimum of five (5) years hospital pharmacy practice experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years of management experience (as a manager or director of pharmacy) required
  • Completion of a hospital pharmacy residency preferred
  • 340B preferred

Physical Requirements:

Physical Requirements are based on federal criteria and assigned by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.
