Role Overview
The primary focus of this position is to propel various research initiatives from the Lead Optimization phase through to Candidate Selection. This will be achieved through adept leadership of cross-functional, multi-disciplinary teams, which include members from discovery, precision medicine, preclinical safety, safety pharmacology, DMPK-BA, CMC, clinical development, and other areas. The projects may encompass biologics, genetic therapies, small molecules, protein degraders, antibody-drug conjugates, or alternative modalities.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish clear objectives and a vision for each project while defining both short-term and long-term strategies.
- Ensure scientific excellence across all programs, collaborating with core team members to design and implement suitable experiments that effectively advance projects towards critical decision points.
- Maintain project timelines and ensure teams meet their goals.
- Secure necessary resources to facilitate key experiments.
- Conduct thorough data analysis and guide teams in resolving challenges and making strategic decisions.
- Identify and engage relevant internal and external experts to support project advancement.
- Inspire and motivate team members throughout the organization.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues in Discovery, Development Sciences, and Development.
- Prepare comprehensive documentation and presentations that showcase project progress and support Discovery and Development activities.
- Present projects to diverse audiences, including functional heads and senior leadership.
- Position projects for a smooth transition from Discovery to Clinical phases, serving as the Discovery representative for assets progressing through first-in-human studies.
- Mentor project leaders and target champions for initiatives in the Lead Generation phase.
Qualifications
PhD or MS/BS with equivalent experience and a minimum of 12 years in the industry, with a preference for PhD candidates. Proven multi-disciplinary scientific expertise and a deep understanding of all relevant fields are essential for the timely execution of project components. A minimum of 8 years of experience as a core team member or co-project lead across multiple projects is required, with broad scientific experience spanning Discovery to Development, particularly in biologics.
Strong communication and problem-solving skills are vital. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, self-directed, and capable of managing multiple complex research programs simultaneously. Extensive leadership experience with a demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate team members, even without direct reporting relationships, is crucial.
