Job Overview

The Aviation & Maritime Security Specialist plays a crucial role within the MedAire Aviation Security Centre. This position is dedicated to providing comprehensive assessments, strategic advice, coordination, and ongoing monitoring support to clients, ensuring a robust global security operations capability available around the clock.

The Specialist is tasked with delivering high-quality, tailored aviation and maritime security briefings, both written and verbal, to organizations across the aviation, commercial maritime, and luxury yachting sectors. This role involves offering security guidance and enhancing client situational awareness by monitoring, drafting alerts, and escalating emerging security issues related to aviation and maritime operations.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional, customized verbal and written security assessments to a diverse multinational clientele operating in complex environments.
  • Gather, analyze, and disseminate information regarding security or disruption issues impacting personnel and the aviation and maritime sectors, in accordance with directives from regional and functional analysts.
  • Maintain an ongoing awareness of the regional security landscape by conducting thorough research on global aviation and maritime security trends.
  • Facilitate training and consultancy services as required.
  • Travel as necessary to support crisis management efforts and to establish local networks that enhance client support.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of current events influencing aviation and maritime security, and learn to provide effective written and verbal travel advisories to clients.
  • Become fully acquainted with and adhere to all operational systems and procedures, participating in regular training related to Aviation and Maritime Security and broader security topics as directed by management.
  • Update proprietary documents, assessments, and other content, including the maintenance and development of the A&M Content Management System.

Essential Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong interest in global affairs and the international security landscape.
  • Deep analytical insight into political and security issues affecting aviation and maritime security.
  • Thorough understanding of flight operations and maritime voyages, particularly in relation to varying security threat levels.
  • Ability to source, validate, and synthesize information from diverse sources, including open-source intelligence (OSINT) and human intelligence (HUMINT), while engaging in the complete intelligence cycle as directed.
  • Capacity to remain composed and resourceful in achieving objectives amidst uncertainty and competing demands.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information to non-expert audiences and to produce concise and nuanced security briefs.
  • International experience, both professional and personal.
  • Proficient IT skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant applications.
  • Willingness to work beyond standard hours to support team operations, especially during crises.

Preferred Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in travel or security-related fields such as military, public safety, government, NGOs, human rights, or journalism; or relevant academic qualifications.
  • Experience in sourcing and evaluating information from various channels, successfully briefing or writing for senior stakeholders.
  • Background in the aviation sector, particularly in security or flight planning roles.
  • Experience within the maritime industry.
  • Proficiency in writing for senior management and business decision-makers.
  • Experience in customer service or client-facing roles.

Qualifications

  • Degree in politics, international relations, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Post-graduate qualification in politics, international relations, or a related field is preferred.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States and/or the UAE is required.

Language Proficiency

  • Excellent command of English (both spoken and written).
  • Operational proficiency or advanced skills in another language (such as Arabic, Russian, Farsi, French, etc.) is desirable.

Travel and Rotation Requirements

  • Flexibility in working hours and shift patterns is essential, including availability for nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Travel is dependent on business needs but is expected to remain under 10% of total work hours.
