Position Overview

The Senior Pharmacy Operations Manager is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the pharmacy department's drug distribution and clinical pharmacy functions. This role ensures the implementation of safe and efficient practices in accordance with established pharmacy policies related to patient care and provides clinical drug information to meet the needs of patients, nursing staff, and physicians. The incumbent will lead a designated team and manage departmental requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee daily operations of the pharmacy department.
  • Supervise the dispensing pharmacy activities.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g., State Board of Pharmacy, DEA, FDA).
  • Educate staff on pharmacy-related compliance issues, FDA recalls, and drug information.
  • Develop quality assurance programs to assess patient care quality and maintain compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Establish procedures for the procurement, storage, security, and disposal of pharmaceuticals and supplies.
  • Maintain records of pharmacist and intern licenses and technician registrations as mandated by state law.
  • Address inquiries from regulatory boards as necessary.
  • Implement policies to safeguard the integrity and confidentiality of prescription and patient health information.
  • Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal pharmacy practice regulations.
  • Serve as a primary resource for internal and external inquiries regarding pharmacy information.
  • Maintain compliance with controlled substances reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with other department leaders and nursing teams.
  • Minimize risk management and safety concerns within the pharmacy.
  • Participate in recruitment and training processes for pharmacy staff.
  • Engage in on-call duties as required by staffing needs.
  • Ensure high-quality professional services are consistently delivered.
  • Dispense medications accurately as prescribed by healthcare providers.
  • Facilitate effective communication with providers, patients, and team members to ensure patient-centered care.
  • Provide consultations to patients regarding medication safety and storage, addressing health-related inquiries.
  • Foster strong relationships with physicians, patients, and manufacturers to enhance customer loyalty.
  • Offer guidance to pharmacy technicians on technical, policy, and regulatory matters to ensure accurate dispensing and record-keeping.
  • Assist in managing workflow and assigning tasks to pharmacy staff.
  • Participate in educational programs as needed.
  • Verify the accuracy of work performed by support personnel.
  • Conduct drug utilization reviews of patient records.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the roles within the pharmacy team.
  • Exhibit leadership by promoting company values and representing departmental objectives.
  • Address customer concerns and inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Generate reports to monitor workflow and achieve revenue targets.
  • Manage employee schedules and approve time-off requests as per the payroll system.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to ensure effective communication.
