Position Overview:
The University of Miami Health System is seeking a dedicated full-time Patient Navigator. This role is essential in enhancing patient access to medical services and ensuring a seamless healthcare experience.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct thorough patient assessments to gather necessary information for effective treatment planning.
2. Facilitate patient access to insurance and social service programs they qualify for.
3. Provide reminders for upcoming appointments and serve as a communication bridge between patients and healthcare providers.
4. Identify and address any barriers to care, whether real or perceived.
5. Offer education and counseling to patients regarding their health and personal circumstances.
6. Stay informed about community health resources and programs available to patients.
7. Comply with university policies and safeguard institutional assets.

Qualifications:
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience is required, preferably in a medical office or hospital setting.

  • Ability to manage confidential information with integrity.
  • Effective communication skills in both written and verbal forms.
  • Capacity to handle challenging situations with professionalism.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to maintain effective relationships.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately.

Department-Specific Functions:

  • Manage the Welcome/Patient Resource Center.
  • Educate patients about cancer support services.
  • Act as a liaison for patients to various services and departments.
  • Provide guidance and tours for patients when necessary.
  • Support new patient orientation initiatives.
  • Ensure confidentiality of patient information.
  • Conduct follow-up calls for Patient Satisfaction Surveys.
  • Assist with clerical tasks such as faxing, scanning, and supply ordering.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Exceptional customer service skills are essential.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology is preferred.
  • Aptitude for managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with patients and staff.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel.
