Position Overview
Regional Cancer Care Associates (RCCA) is seeking a dedicated Patient Care Coordinator I to enhance our patient support services. This role acts as the primary medical liaison for patients, facilitating communication between the practice, healthcare facilities, support services, and insurance providers. The position relies on established protocols and guidelines to execute job responsibilities effectively. The individual will learn to apply departmental procedures and policies appropriately while escalating complex issues to supervisors for further assistance.

This role encompasses a diverse range of tasks, requiring creativity and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously. A positive attitude and a passion for patient care are essential qualities for success in this position.

Key Responsibilities:

Prior to a patient's initial appointment, the coordinator will reach out to collect essential chart information, including diagnosis, referring physician details, personal data, and insurance information.

The coordinator will engage with patients to understand their medical preferences, ensuring a suitable match with Network physicians. Additionally, the role involves assessing patients' family, medical, and social service needs.

On behalf of the patient, the coordinator will manage physician referrals, schedule oncology-related appointments both within and outside the practice, and address any insurance billing and coding concerns.

The coordinator is responsible for maintaining accurate documentation in the medical chart, verifying insurance eligibility, assessing financial requirements, and educating patients about their insurance benefits and co-payments.

Tasks also include obtaining pre-authorization for services and maintaining up-to-date patient demographics. The coordinator may assist patients in accessing financial resources and will provide educational materials to patients and their families.

Furthermore, the coordinator will update and maintain patient education resources, including brochures and videos, and refer patients or family members to relevant agencies and services, such as housing, transportation, and counseling.

Networking within the community to stay informed about available resources is crucial, as is responding to routine inquiries promptly and professionally. The coordinator will seek guidance from senior colleagues and supervisors when faced with non-routine issues.


Qualifications:

A High School diploma or equivalent is required, with some college education preferred. A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in areas such as medical coding, patient advocacy, or social services is essential.

The candidate must possess strong verbal communication skills to effectively articulate information and inquiries. Proficiency in computer systems, medical billing software, and Microsoft Office Suite is required. Successful completion of mandatory e-learning courses within 90 days of starting the position is also necessary.
