Position Summary
Regional Cancer Care Associates (RCCA) is seeking a dedicated Oncology Patient Liaison I to enhance our patient support services. This role acts as the primary contact for patients, facilitating communication between the practice, healthcare facilities, support services, and insurance providers. The position relies on established protocols and guidelines to execute responsibilities effectively. The successful candidate will learn to apply departmental procedures and escalate complex issues to supervisory staff for assistance. This role encompasses a variety of tasks, requiring creativity and the ability to manage multiple priorities. A positive attitude and passion for patient care are essential.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Prior to the initial patient consultation, engage with patients to gather essential medical information, including diagnosis, referring physician details, and insurance data.
2. Assess patient preferences regarding physician interaction styles to ensure compatibility with Network physicians.
3. Identify and address patients' family, medical, and social service needs.
4. Coordinate referrals and schedule oncology-related appointments, both within the practice and externally, while resolving any insurance billing or coding discrepancies.
5. Ensure that all documentation is accurately recorded in the medical chart.
6. Verify insurance eligibility and educate patients on their benefits and co-payment responsibilities.
7. Obtain necessary pre-authorizations for services and maintain up-to-date patient demographic information.
8. Assist patients in accessing financial resources and provide educational materials to patients and their families.
9. Update and manage patient education resources, including brochures and instructional videos.
10. Refer patients and their families to relevant agencies and services for additional support, such as housing, transportation, and counseling.
11. Build a network within the community to stay informed about available resources and services.
12. Respond to routine inquiries promptly and professionally, seeking guidance from senior colleagues for complex issues.

Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent is required; some college education is preferred.
- A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in medical coding, patient advocacy, or social services is required.
- Strong verbal communication skills are essential for effective interaction with patients and team members.
- Must be personable and proficient in computer systems, including medical billing software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to communicate clearly and use appropriate medical terminology is necessary.
- Completion of required e-learning courses within the first 90 days of employment is mandatory.
