Our Personal Lines Underwriting division is currently looking for a Trainee Underwriter. This is a full-time, non-exempt position.

POSITION SUMMARY:
This role serves as a training opportunity within Personal Lines Underwriting.

Key Responsibilities:

Responding to inquiries from both internal and external customers, processing policy requests, conducting research, and managing various tasks across multiple states and lines of business while meeting service objectives.

May involve making basic underwriting decisions and applying insurance regulations in line with assigned guidelines and authority levels.

As skills and competencies are developed, this individual may join various project teams.

IN THIS POSITION, YOU WILL:
Accurately quote, issue, and endorse policies (including bookrolls, renewals, and endorsements).
Investigate customer inquiries (including rate discrepancies and system reports).
Provide subject matter assistance to agents, other departments, and colleagues.
Support and maintain work migration—both internally and externally.
Process policy transactions as required to support the underwriting function.
Evaluate claim referrals based on underwriting authority.
Identify and escalate risk assessments.
Order and assess reports relevant to underwriting decisions within authority (core underwriting activities).

QUALIFICATIONS:
A college degree is preferred; or demonstrated success in a service-oriented industry for 2-3 years.
Knowledge of insurance is advantageous.
Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office and internet research.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Exceptional organizational and planning abilities.
Highly detail-oriented.
Strategic thinking—integrates and balances overarching concerns with daily tasks.
