Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Analyst to join our team at the City of Reno. As a Financial Analyst, you will play a critical role in ensuring the financial health and stability of our organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of professional-level accounting duties involved in preparing, maintaining, analyzing, verifying, and reconciling complex financial transactions, statements, records, and reports.
  • Coordinate and supervise various accounting activities, including the audit of vouchers payable and review of accounts payable for accuracy, proper coding, and discounts taken or lost.
  • Supervise the billing, recording, and monthly reconciliation of accounts receivables and the follow-up of delinquent accounts.
  • Participate in the posting, balancing, and reconciliation of the general ledger and subsidiary accounts, and assist with the monthly and year-end closing of financial records.
  • Prepare a variety of financial, statistical, and special reports, including select sections of the comprehensive annual financial report.
  • Review accounting and internal control procedures in City departments and recommend modifications.
  • Prepare publications, resolutions, and documentation for City Council and/or other agency review and adoption.
  • Participate in the development, installation, and maintenance of specialized accounting information systems.
  • May interpret accounts and records to management personnel.
  • Periodically assist the independent auditors as requested.
  • Record journal entries for depreciation, sale of assets, and joint venture activity and corrections and reclassifications.
  • Prepare labor costing and project reports and entries.
  • Coordinate debt issuance and reporting.
  • Review journal entries, prepare and review quarterly analyses.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
  • Two years of increasingly responsible professional-level governmental accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of public agency financial management, including general and governmental accounting, auditing, and reporting functions, as well as Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS).
  • Ability to perform a variety of professional accounting and financial analysis functions, oversee, train, and evaluate technical and clerical personnel, examine and verify financial documents, reports, and transactions, and prepare and maintain accurate financial statements, records, and reports.
