At NWACC, part-time faculty are regarded as full-time professionals who engage in teaching on a part-time basis. When an individual accepts a position as an associate faculty member, they embrace the responsibilities and commitments of a professional educator.

Under the guidance of the respective Division Dean or Department Chair, each associate instructor's primary responsibility is the instruction of assigned courses. This obligation takes precedence over all other duties. Instructors are expected to be punctual and prepared for each class meeting to the best of their ability.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, associate instructors may be assigned additional duties by their supervisors or the Vice President for Learning and are expected to adhere to the relevant sections of the Faculty Handbook. A strong commitment to the community college philosophy and the specific goals of NWACC is essential.

Qualifications:

  • Must be licensed in Arkansas or eligible for licensure.
  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing (BSN) and/or Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) as mandated by the Accrediting Body.
  • Minimum of two years of clinical experience.
  • Experience in clinical teaching.
  • Exceptional communication, organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving, and counseling skills.
  • Familiarity with legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting clinical education, students, and the nursing profession.
  • Current knowledge of contemporary nursing practices.
  • Proficient in computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Blackboard or similar distance learning platforms.
  • Must meet the full-time faculty requirements.
  • Clear criminal background check.
  • Pass a 10-panel urine drug screening.
  • Current TB/CPR documentation.
  • Up-to-date immunizations.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Maintain educational and clinical competencies in clinical instruction.
  • Consider safety, patient acuity, and specifics of any clinical area when determining faculty/student ratios for clinical experiences.
  • Support and implement the philosophy and conceptual framework within the Nursing Program curricula.
  • Engage in the development and revision of the Nursing Program as necessary.
  • Create and sustain an intellectual environment conducive to critical thinking and meaningful learning experiences.
  • Coordinate, plan, and uphold clinical learning environments suitable for the implementation of the curricula.
  • Utilize evaluative techniques to assess student performance.
  • Participate in faculty and committee assignments.
  • Exemplify and promote high standards of nursing practice.
  • Stay current in specialty areas and nursing education.
  • Provide program advising and counseling for nursing students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by appropriate authorities.
  • Adhere to the clinical instructor dress code, which includes wearing an official NWACC instructor name tag and appropriate attire as per clinical facility policy.

Compensation: Varies based on educational qualifications:

  • Associates: $35 per hour
  • Bachelors: $39 per hour
  • Masters: $42 per hour
  • Doctorate: $45 per hour

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of the organization and administration of various higher education academic and social programs.
  • Awareness of campus and community resources.
  • Knowledge of state, federal, and campus regulations related to academic and social programs.
  • Ability to coordinate activities of campus academic and/or social programs.
  • Capability to evaluate information and formulate recommendations.
  • Ability to compile information into report form.

Physical Requirements: Employees must be able to effectively communicate, stand, walk, sit, and reach. Occasionally, employees may need to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste, or smell. The role may require lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds occasionally, up to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds regularly. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Environmental Conditions: Employees may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, electrical hazards, and radiation risks. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.
