Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced HR Generalist to join our team at Fortis Fire & Safety Inc. as a strategic partner in driving business success. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert guidance and support to our employees and management team in all aspects of human resources, including recruitment, employee relations, compensation and benefits, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Recruitment and Onboarding
    • Collaborate with the recruitment team to develop and implement effective recruitment strategies to attract top talent.
    • Coordinate and conduct new employee orientations to ensure a smooth onboarding process.
  • Employee Relations
    • Work closely with leadership to foster a positive and inclusive company culture that promotes teamwork, safety, customer service, and continuous improvement.
    • Maintain open and transparent communication with employees and management to resolve conflicts and address concerns.
    • Act as a coach and confidant to employees, providing guidance and support to help them navigate the organization.
    • Conduct investigations and make sound decisions to resolve employee relations issues.
  • Compensation and Benefits
    • Develop and implement competitive compensation and benefits packages to attract and retain top talent.
    • Provide expert guidance on benefits administration, including open enrollment, life events, and plan maintenance.
    • Collaborate with management to develop and implement benefits communications and counseling programs.
  • Compliance
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, including employment law, labor law, and affirmative action.
    • Maintain accurate employee records and personnel files, including I-9 retention.
    • Provide expert guidance on HR policy, programs, and practices to employees and management.
  • Other Responsibilities
    • Report Worker's Compensation injuries to the carrier and liaise with claim adjusters and employees as needed.
    • Ensure employees are returned to work in a safe and timely manner, monitoring restricted duty assignments.
    • Mentor teammates in areas of expertise to develop the knowledge and skill level of the HR team.
    • Stay up-to-date on trends and changes in employment law and HR best practices to keep the company competitive and compliant.
    Requirements
    • High school diploma/GED and at least 7 years of progressive HR experience, or
    • An Associate's degree and at least 5 years of progressive HR experience, or
    • A Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of progressive HR experience.
    • At least 2 years of experience working with an HRIS.
    • Knowledge of federal and state laws related to employment and labor, including FLSA, EEO, FMLA, ADA, and other relevant regulations.
    • Strong verbal, written, and consultative communication skills.
    • Ability to develop professional relationships and credibility within the organization.
    • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Word, and PowerPoint, with intermediate proficiency in Excel.
    • Experience administering benefit programs.
    • Capacity to apply discretion and maintain a high level of confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree or higher in an HR or business-related field.
    • More than 7 years of HR experience.
    • Experience working in the construction industry.
    • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, HRCI SPHR or PHR certification.
    • Prior experience with prevailing wage.
    • Prior experience processing payroll.
    • Prior experience with ADP or UKG.
    Compensation

$80,000 - $100,000/year

Physical Requirements

The Team member is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The Team member is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The Team member is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and climb stairs, or balance. The Team member must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
