Job Overview

Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing and as part of the Nursing Department, the Medical Assistant - Testopel Coordinator will deliver essential support to patients and healthcare providers while also contributing to various clinic operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Direct Patient Care:

  • Prepare for patient visits by organizing necessary documentation such as summary sheets, consent forms, and labels.
  • Review consent forms to ensure proper patient signatures.
  • Set up examination rooms for patient interactions, ensuring cleanliness and adequate supplies.
  • Guide patients from the waiting area to the exam room using proper identification methods.
  • Collect vital signs, chief complaints, and relevant medical history from patients.
  • Document patient information and vital signs in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Assist in patient care under the guidance of a medical provider, RN, or LPN.
  • Facilitate care coordination for patients through various communication methods.
  • Administer CLIA waived lab tests and medical procedures as per established protocols.
  • Support the collection and transportation of laboratory samples.
  • Handle administrative tasks such as sorting mail, filing, and faxing to support office operations.
  • Participate in Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) initiatives by reviewing patient charts for necessary health screenings.
  • Adhere to standard precautions and utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately.
  • Assist during physical examinations as needed.
  • Coordinate in-clinic services to ensure efficient patient flow.
  • Foster teamwork and maintain professional relationships with all staff and patients.
  • Perform phlebotomy and administer vaccines as qualified.
  • Provide clinical assistance for walk-in patients.
  • Respond to emergencies as trained and seek additional help when necessary.

Coordination of Testopel Care:

  • Engage in pre-visit planning, including communication with patients regarding their appointments.
  • Collaborate with the Testopel scheduler to arrange procedures for patients.
  • Work alongside the medical assistant lead to ensure adequate staffing and training in Testopel procedures.
  • Assist nursing leadership in maintaining compliance with relevant health policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that patient medications are prescribed and coordinate with pharmacies for availability.
  • Oversee the proper storage and handling of Testopel medications.
  • Coordinate with the Prior Authorization department for medication renewals.

Management of Medical Supplies:

  • Ensure that all equipment is functioning properly and report any issues to the supervisor.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam rooms and supply areas throughout the day.
  • Conduct regular inventory checks and manage stock levels to prevent shortages.
  • Document and report any expired medical supplies appropriately.
  • Monitor and record daily temperatures of refrigerators and rooms, notifying supervisors of any discrepancies.

Clerical and Communication Support:

  • Manage appointment reminders and follow-ups for patients.
  • Document all patient interactions and communication in a timely manner.
  • Assist patients with scheduling appointments for various services.

Collaboration and Training:

  • Engage in regular meetings with assigned providers to discuss upcoming appointments.
  • Identify and escalate any abnormal test results or vital signs that require immediate attention.
  • Participate in staff meetings and contribute to team training efforts.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations at all times.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant or EMT Program.
  • Current CPR Certification.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Professional demeanor and appearance suitable for a healthcare environment.
  • Familiarity with basic medical terminology.
  • Commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion within the workplace.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
