Patient Care Coordinator I

POSITION SUMMARY
The Patient Services Specialist I will serve as the primary contact for patients, working under the guidance of the Senior Staff Accountant/PSS Supervisor. This role is essential in providing comprehensive patient support, which includes scheduling appointments, processing payments, and maintaining accurate records.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Welcome patients and visitors with professionalism and respect.
- Manage appointment scheduling and conduct reminder calls.
- Answer incoming calls efficiently, adhering to established protocols for call transfers.
- Ensure accurate patient registration, verifying all information is correct.
- Confirm insurance coverage during registration and obtain necessary signatures.
- Collect co-pays, co-insurance, and deductibles, issuing receipts and balancing daily transactions.
- Facilitate referrals and clarify benefits coordination for each case.
- Verify patient eligibility and insurance benefits through online systems or direct communication with insurance providers.
- Assist patients in completing necessary forms and documentation.
- Monitor patient wait times and keep them informed of any delays.
- Guide patients and visitors to the appropriate areas within the facility.
- Utilize the electronic medical record (EMR) system for communication and documentation.
- Maintain effective relationships with coworkers and external partners to enhance workflow.
- Adhere to HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Stay updated on industry regulations and best practices.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

- Respond to inquiries with professionalism and tact.
- Engage in special projects and participate in relevant meetings.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED required; vocational training in healthcare is advantageous.
- Familiarity with insurance benefits and billing processes preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Understanding of medical terminology and billing practices.
- Experience with practice management software is beneficial.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

- This position operates within a healthcare setting, requiring frequent standing and walking.
