Gulf of Maine Ventures, our innovation and entrepreneurship division, has successfully assisted over 80 early-stage blue tech enterprises in recent years through initiatives focused on company formation, industry networking, scaling, and investment.

Position Summary:

The Senior Program Manager will play a crucial role in supporting the Gulf of Maine Ventures team by overseeing early-stage startup incubator and accelerator initiatives. This position will focus on 1-2 specific programs and their associated portfolio of blue economy startups, selected for their alignment with GMRI's mission, social impact potential, and sustainable revenue generation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Development: Enhance the curriculum for incubator and accelerator programs to meet the unique needs of blue economy startups, establishing clear milestones, workshops, and mentorship opportunities.
  • Recruitment and Partnerships: Proactively engage in recruiting startups, mentors, advisors, and strategic partners within the blue economy sector, while cultivating relationships with corporate partners and potential investors.
  • Evaluation and Due Diligence: Perform comprehensive assessments of incoming startups to evaluate their market viability, scalability, and potential impact within the blue economy.
  • Business Support: Offer operational and technical support to startups, including market research, business planning, and customer acquisition strategies, while facilitating mentorship with industry experts.
  • Program Management: Oversee daily operations of incubator and accelerator programs, ensuring objectives and milestones are achieved, and track key metrics to report on program impact.
  • Community Engagement: Organize workshops and events focused on blue economy innovation and investment opportunities, engaging with local stakeholders to foster a supportive ecosystem.
  • Strategic Collaboration: Work with strategic partners and local agencies to promote a blue economy innovation corridor, identifying opportunities for collaboration and resource sharing.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field.
  • Experience in early-stage companies or managing accelerator programs.
  • Passion for blue economy entrepreneurship.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent networking and collaboration abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with strong multitasking capabilities.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality work.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with blue economy businesses in the Gulf of Maine.
  • Understanding of climate change impacts and business opportunities.
  • Experience in business coaching and mentoring.
  • Knowledge of venture capital structures.
  • Proficiency in project management and program evaluation.
  • Familiarity with GSuite, Microsoft Office, and analytical tools.
  • Strong public speaking and writing skills.
  • Established network of entrepreneurs and investors.
  • Experience with fundraising and grant writing.
