Gulf of Maine Ventures, the innovation and entrepreneurship division of GMRI, has successfully assisted over 80 early-stage blue technology companies in recent years through comprehensive support in company formation, industry connections, scaling, and investment opportunities.

Position Summary:

The Senior Program Manager will play a pivotal role in the Gulf of Maine Ventures team, focusing on the execution of early-stage startup incubator and accelerator programs. This position will primarily support 1-2 specific initiatives and their associated portfolio of blue economy startups, selected for their potential to further GMRI's mission, enhance social impact, and ensure sustainable revenue generation over time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Development: Tailor and refine the curriculum for incubator and accelerator programs to meet the unique needs of blue economy startups, establishing program milestones, workshops, and mentorship sessions to facilitate growth.
  • Recruitment and Partnerships: Proactively engage in the recruitment of startups, mentors, advisors, and strategic partners within the blue economy sector, while fostering relationships with corporate partners and potential investors.
  • Evaluation and Due Diligence: Conduct comprehensive assessments of incoming startups to evaluate their potential for success, including market viability and scalability within the blue economy.
  • Business Support: Provide operational and technical assistance to startups, including market research, business planning, and customer acquisition strategies, while facilitating mentorship opportunities with industry experts.
  • Program Management: Oversee the daily operations of incubator and accelerator programs, ensuring that objectives and milestones are achieved, and track key metrics to demonstrate program impact.
  • Community Engagement: Organize workshops and events focused on blue economy innovation and investment opportunities, while collaborating with local economic development agencies to promote the blue economy.
  • Strategic Collaboration: Work with strategic partners, government agencies, and local stakeholders to develop a blue economy innovation corridor, identifying opportunities for collaboration and resource sharing.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field.
  • Experience in early-stage companies or accelerator program management.
  • Passion for blue economy entrepreneurship.
  • Understanding of startup financing and strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to effectively network and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail and capacity to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in business or a related area.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with blue economy businesses in the Gulf of Maine.
  • Knowledge of climate change impacts and business opportunities.
  • Experience in business coaching and mentoring.
  • Understanding of venture capital structures.
  • Proficiency in project management and program evaluation.
  • Strong skills in GSuite, Microsoft Office, and analytic tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal, public speaking, and writing abilities.
  • Established network of entrepreneurs and startup investors.
