Position Overview
This role entails the technical oversight, administration, and preservation of collections and archival materials within the Oklahoma Geological Survey's Oklahoma Petroleum Information Center (OPIC). As an Archivist, the individual will be part of a dedicated team within the core and cuttings department, ensuring that a comprehensive collection of core and cuttings materials is available for public access, serving both industry and scientific research needs. The OPIC operates as a satellite geoscience repository and core storage facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify, prepare, label, and catalog specimens, manuscripts, archival materials, and specialized collections.
  • Support metadata creation and management for grant-funded special collections projects as required.
  • Implement and oversee approved collection policies and procedures.
  • Maintain archival spaces to ensure optimal preservation conditions.
  • Manage access to collections, providing high-quality service to students, faculty, and researchers.
  • Address inquiries related to collections and materials.
  • Assess collections and items requiring preservation treatment and execute routine preservation tasks.
  • May oversee student workers and additional staff as necessary.
  • Perform various tasks as needed to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of the position.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree AND:

  • 24 months of relevant experience in archival arrangement and/or records management.
Equivalency/Substitution: A total of 72 months of related experience may substitute for the Bachelor's degree.

Skills Required:
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to quickly establish rapport with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Current experience in museums, archives, or libraries.
  • Strong leadership capabilities for project teams.
  • Familiarity with automated storage and retrieval systems, as well as electronic records management.

Certifications:
  • Valid Driver's License.

Physical/Environmental Requirements:
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Climbing ladders as necessary.
  • Standard office environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in teams.

Departmental Preferences:
  • Experience in a supervisory role.

Supervision: Data Specialist 1-5 students
