Position Overview
This role is dedicated to the technical oversight, administration, and preservation of collections and archival materials associated with the OGS-OPIC core and cuttings collection. As an Archivist, this individual will contribute to a team within the core and cuttings department of the Oklahoma Geological Survey's Oklahoma Petroleum Information Center (OPIC), which maintains a publicly accessible collection of core and cuttings materials for both industry and scientific inquiry. The OPIC serves as a geoscience repository and core storage facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify, prepare, label, and catalog specimens, manuscripts, archival materials, and other specialized collections.
  • Provide support for metadata creation and management for grant-funded special collections projects as necessary.
  • Implement and oversee approved collection policies.
  • Maintain archival storage areas.
  • Manage access to collections, ensuring high-quality professional service to students, staff, faculty, and researchers.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding collections.
  • Identify materials and items requiring preservation treatment and perform routine preservation tasks.
  • May supervise student workers and staff.
  • Perform various duties as required to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of the position.

Qualifications

Required Education: Bachelor's degree AND:

  • 24 months of relevant experience in archival arrangement and/or records management.
Equivalency/Substitution: Accepts 48 months of relevant experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree for a total of 72 months of related experience.

Essential Skills
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build rapport with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Current experience in museums, archives, or libraries.
  • Proven ability to lead project teams effectively.
  • Knowledge of automated storage and retrieval systems, as well as electronic records management.

Certifications
  • Valid Driver's License.

Physical/Environmental Requirements
  • Ability to engage in repetitive motion.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Climb ladders as necessary.
  • Standard office environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within teams.

Departmental Preferences
  • Some supervisory experience preferred.

Supervision: Data Specialist 1-5 students
