The University of Oklahoma's Archaeology Department is on the lookout for a committed Collections Assistant to enhance our team. This position involves the meticulous inventory, cataloging, digitization, and management of archaeological collections in line with NAGPRA regulations. You will play a vital role in supporting the Archaeology Collections Manager/NAGPRA Coordinator and the Curator of Archaeology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform inventory checks and reorganize archaeological collections
  • Manage sensitive NAGPRA collections and engage in consultations
  • Develop catalog entries in a database for collections and relevant documentation
  • Assist in coordinating projects and maintaining collections
  • Engage with visitors, address inquiries, and conduct tours
  • Execute various tasks to support the team effectively

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology or a related discipline
  • Strong attention to detail coupled with excellent communication and organizational abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database management systems
  • Capability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Familiarity with museum practices and standards
