Position Overview
This role is pivotal in overseeing the technical management, supervision, and preservation of collections and archival materials related to the Oklahoma Geological Survey's core and cuttings collection. As an Archivist, you will be part of a dedicated team within the core and cuttings department, ensuring that a diverse array of geological materials is accessible for both industry and academic research.

Responsibilities
  • Identify, prepare, label, and catalog specimens, manuscripts, archival materials, and other unique collections.
  • Support metadata creation and management for special collections projects funded by grants.
  • Implement and oversee established collection policies.
  • Maintain and organize archival spaces.
  • Facilitate access to collections, ensuring high-quality service to students, faculty, and researchers.
  • Address inquiries related to collections.
  • Assess collections and materials for preservation needs and perform routine preservation tasks.
  • Supervise student workers and staff as necessary.
  • Execute various tasks to ensure the successful operation of the position.

Job Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree AND:

  • At least 24 months of relevant experience in archival arrangement and/or records management.
Equivalency/Substitution: A total of 72 months of related experience may substitute for the Bachelor's degree.

Essential Skills
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to quickly build rapport with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Current experience in a museum, archive, or library setting.
  • Proven leadership abilities in managing project teams.
  • Familiarity with automated storage and retrieval systems, as well as electronic records management.

Certifications:
  • Valid Driver's License required.

Physical/Environmental Requirements:
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions.
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders.
  • Standard office environment.
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively in teams.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a supervisory role.

Supervision: Oversee Data Specialist 1-5 students.
