Job Summary

This is a full-time position at the Oklahoma Geological Survey's Oklahoma Petroleum Information Center (OPIC) that involves the technical supervision, management, and maintenance of collections and archival material. The successful candidate will be responsible for the archiving and curation of OGS-OPIC core and cuttings collection materials, as well as providing customer service, shipping and receiving of collection materials, and maintaining a chain of custody of reclaimed materials and data dissemination.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collection Management: Identify, prepare, tag, and catalog specimens, manuscripts, archival material, and other special collections.
  • Metadata Creation and Management: Provide metadata creation and management support for grant-funded special collections projects as needed.
  • Policy Implementation: Implement and monitor approved collection policies.
  • Archival Area Maintenance: Maintain archival areas.
  • Access Management: Manage access to collections, assuring quality professional service to students, staff, faculty, and researchers.
  • Customer Service: Respond to inquiries regarding collections.
  • Preservation: Identify collections, materials, and individual items in need of preservation treatment and perform routine preservation.
  • Supervision: May supervise student workers and staff.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree AND 24 months of related experience in archival arrangement and/or records management.
  • Equivalency: Will accept 48 months of related experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree for a total of 72 months of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate well and build rapport quickly with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Current Experience: Current museum, archive, or library experience.
  • Leadership Skills: Must have strong ability to lead project teams.
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of automated storage and retrieval systems, and electronic records.
Physical Requirements
  • Physical Ability: Ability to engage in repetitive motion.
  • Lifting: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Climbing: Climb ladders.
  • Work Environment: Standard office environment.
