ROLE SUMMARY:

The RCRA Compliance Specialist – Materials Specialist plays a crucial role in interpreting and applying knowledge of RCRA, TSCA, and various federal and state waste regulations. This position involves quality assurance and control, waste determinations, and conducting waste sampling and stream characterization utilizing previous knowledge, laboratory results, and safety data sheets among other reference materials. The specialist will also be responsible for entering waste-related data into government systems, including waste characterization data and tracking information.

This role is primarily based on-site and may involve travel to various waste accumulation points under challenging conditions. The specialist will occasionally assist technicians with waste processing, handling, and container deliveries as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interpret and apply standards from RCRA, TSCA, CERCLA, OSHA, and other relevant regulations.
  • Conduct waste characterization sampling as necessary.
  • Perform waste determinations and characterize wastes using existing knowledge and analytical results.
  • Package and ship samples to laboratories, ensuring compliance with chain of custody protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records and data entry using government systems.
  • Adhere to safety program requirements and company policies.
  • Provide exemplary customer service and maintain professionalism at all times.
  • Serve in a quality assurance/control capacity.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify RCRA program deficiencies through visual inspections.
  • Conduct periodic inspections at various waste accumulation areas.
  • Assist Accumulation Area Managers in compliance issue resolution.
  • Communicate with Program Managers regarding program requirements and improvements.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and accomplish tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Operate light and heavy vehicles and equipment as required.
  • Participate in spill response and remediation activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma required.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant RCRA experience within the last ten years.
  • Strong understanding of RCRA regulations, particularly in waste determinations and characterization.

SKILLS:

  • Ability to interpret SOPs and waste-related regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of federal regulatory requirements for RCRA waste management.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position requires both indoor and outdoor work, with exposure to various weather conditions and potential hazards such as heavy equipment, chemicals, and hazardous materials.
