Company Overview: North Wind Site Services specializes in engineering, program management, and environmental remediation services. Our focus includes waste investigation, environmental restoration, unexploded ordnance response, regulatory compliance, and facility management.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The RCRA Compliance Specialist – Materials Consultant is responsible for interpreting and applying knowledge of RCRA, TSCA, and other federal and state waste regulations. This role includes quality assurance and control, waste determinations, and waste sampling and characterization based on prior knowledge, laboratory results, and safety data sheets (SDSs). The specialist will also input waste-related data into government systems, assist with inspections, and provide guidance to Installation Accumulation Area Managers (AAMs) on compliance issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret and apply standards set by RCRA, TSCA, and other relevant regulations.
- Conduct waste characterization sampling as necessary.
- Perform waste determinations using analytical results and prior knowledge.
- Package and ship samples to laboratories, ensuring compliance with chain of custody protocols.
- Maintain accurate records and data entry in government systems.
- Adhere to safety program requirements and company policies.
- Provide exceptional customer service and maintain professionalism.
- Serve in a quality assurance role.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identify deficiencies in RCRA programs through visual inspections.
- Conduct periodic inspections at various waste accumulation sites.
- Assist AAMs in resolving compliance issues and educate them on necessary improvements.
- Communicate with program managers regarding compliance requirements and areas for enhancement.
- Adapt to changing priorities and accomplish tasks with minimal supervision.
- Operate various vehicles and equipment as needed.
- Participate in spill response and remediation activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma required.
- Minimum of three years of relevant RCRA experience within the last ten years.
- Experience managing RCRA regulated wastes and performing inspections is essential.
- Strong understanding of RCRA regulations, particularly waste determinations and characterization.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to interpret regulations and project documents effectively.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.
- Knowledge of federal regulatory requirements for waste management.
- Ability to identify areas for improvement and communicate suggestions.
Special Requirements:
- Valid Driver's License.
- Experience operating forklifts and material handling equipment.
- Must pass background checks for access to military installations and government systems.
- Compliance with drug-free policies is mandatory.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
This position involves both indoor and outdoor work, with exposure to various weather conditions and potential hazards such as heavy equipment and hazardous materials.
