Position Overview:
The Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist is a licensed healthcare professional responsible for the comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for pediatric patients. This role emphasizes the utilization of the nursing process, integrating advanced technology, therapeutic interventions, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

This position focuses on delivering specialized and coordinated care for infants, children, and adolescents at the Feeding and Swallowing Care Center and the Esophageal and Airway Center.

The Esophageal and Airway Center is a multidisciplinary facility dedicated to the coordinated management and treatment of children with congenital or acquired disorders affecting the esophagus and airway.

Our team comprises experts including general surgeons, Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) specialists, pediatric gastroenterologists, pulmonologists, dietitians, speech therapists, and nurse practitioners, all with a focus on pediatric care.

The Feeding and Swallowing Care Center provides targeted support for patients facing feeding and swallowing difficulties, which may arise from various conditions such as premature birth, congenital anomalies, genetic disorders, gastrointestinal issues, respiratory complications, and food allergies. Our expert team includes specialists in gastroenterology, speech-language pathology, nutrition, and nursing.

Our clinics encompass Home Enteral Feeding Transitions (HEFT), Infant Feeding and Swallowing Consult (FSC), and Intestinal Adaptations Clinic (IntAC).


Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the medical, surgical, psychosocial, and nutritional evaluations and ongoing care requirements of pediatric patients.
  • Collaborate effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, ensuring clear communication of patient needs.
  • Deliver age-appropriate care and interventions tailored to pediatric patients.
  • Assess, plan, and advocate for patients and their families, coordinating care across the continuum with the healthcare team, support staff, community providers, and external agencies.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities.
  • Demonstrate the ability to independently make complex clinical decisions within established protocols.
  • Employ critical thinking skills throughout the care process, involving patients, families, physicians, and the multidisciplinary team to establish and update care plans as necessary.
  • Engage in quality monitoring and process improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in ongoing education related to digestive health through attendance at professional conferences, webinars, and literature reviews.
  • Act as a clinical expert and leader by participating in, coordinating, and implementing center initiatives while monitoring and ensuring effective outcomes.

Work Schedule:

Full-time:
40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, with no weekend or holiday shifts, and no on-call responsibilities.

Qualifications:
Current RN License in the state of practice.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for healthcare providers.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
RNs with less than 12 months of experience must obtain their BSN within five years of starting.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in pediatric nursing, whether in inpatient or outpatient settings.

Physical Requirements:

Ongoing need for visual acuity to read information, labels, and assess patient needs, as well as operate medical equipment.
