Role Summary:

The Division of Pediatric Critical Care at the University of Utah Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine is seeking a qualified pediatric cardiac intensivist. This role involves sharing comprehensive 24/7 in-house coverage of the 16-bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) at Primary Children's Hospital (PCH) alongside a dedicated team of pediatric cardiac intensivists.

Anticipated expansion of the CICU service will include an additional 6 cardiac intermediate care beds within the next few years. The CICU at PCH is responsible for delivering preoperative and postoperative care for infants, children, and adults with congenital heart conditions, as well as medical intensive care for patients with non-surgical cardiovascular issues.

Our facility supports a robust congenital heart surgery program, featuring 4 full-time congenital heart surgeons who perform over 500 surgeries annually. We also collaborate closely with the Division of Pediatric Cardiology to support a rapidly expanding mechanical circulatory support and ventricular assist device program.

Our division is actively involved in fellowship programs in pediatric critical care and pediatric cardiology, and has a strong history of securing extramural funding and producing significant publications. We participate in national quality improvement collaborative networks, including the Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Consortium and Virtual PICU systems.

Expectations:
In addition to clinical responsibilities, candidates are expected to engage in academic work, which includes education, research, administrative duties, and advocacy.

The Division of Pediatric Critical Care at the University of Utah provides intensive care services for critically ill patients admitted to our 28-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and 16-bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU), with over 2,000 PICU and 600 CICU admissions annually. Our units are staffed by pediatric residents, nurse practitioners, Pediatric Critical Care fellows, and board-certified critical care pediatricians.

Qualifications:
Ideal candidates must be Board Eligible/Board Certified in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, with additional training or experience in pediatric cardiology, cardiac anesthesiology, or pediatric cardiac intensive care. Experience in research, quality improvement, education, or other scholarly activities that enhance clinical medicine is also required.

The successful candidate will receive a faculty appointment on the Clinical or Tenure track at an academic level commensurate with their experience and qualifications.
