Join the dedicated and community-focused team at the Committee on Temporary Shelter (COTS), a nonprofit organization recognized nationally for its innovative programs that provide emergency shelter, services, and housing solutions for individuals facing homelessness or at risk of losing their homes. For nearly four decades, we have been actively engaged in Chittenden County, striving to develop creative solutions to eradicate homelessness. We welcome team members who are passionate about social good and possess innovative thinking. Join us in our mission to eliminate homelessness.

HOUSING SUPPORT COORDINATOR

The Housing Support Coordinator is a newly established position aimed at assisting tenants within COTS Housing. This role is integral to our Housing Retention Center, which collaborates directly with clients who are either experiencing homelessness or are at risk of it, helping them formulate a service plan for transitioning to and/or maintaining stable housing. The primary focus will be on individuals and families who can achieve long-term housing through various COTS Housing programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establishing and nurturing relationships with COTS Housing tenants.
  • Regularly visiting each COTS Housing program to proactively identify and address any issues, concerns, or opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborating closely with Housing Navigators and Resident Managers to support tenant needs.
  • Advocating for clients in accessing community resources and support services.
  • Providing training and referrals for tenant education in financial wellness and essential life skills.
  • Facilitating effective communication between tenants, Resident Managers, and property management.
  • Addressing and resolving tenant issues as they arise.
  • Partnering with Resident Managers to foster a positive living environment for all tenants.

This role is a vital component of our prevention services, directly contributing to our mission of ending homelessness.

Qualifications:

A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required; a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a related field is strongly preferred. Candidates with a background in social work or mental health will be prioritized, and licensed social workers are encouraged to apply. A minimum of two years of relevant experience is required. Ideal candidates will have experience working with individuals facing homelessness and crisis intervention, along with knowledge of resources and services available for individuals and families, including federal and state housing subsidy programs and affordable housing systems. The ability to work with individuals facing mental health, medical, substance abuse, and employment challenges is essential. A combination of relevant coursework and experience will also be considered.

This is a full-time position with benefits. Salary will be commensurate with experience, skills, and qualifications. COTS is an Equal Opportunity Employer, committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
