Primary Responsibilities

The Law Enforcement Officer II role represents the advanced level of law enforcement duties aimed at upholding laws and ensuring the safety of personnel and state assets. This position operates under the general supervision of a Police Officer Sergeant and does not entail supervisory duties. Officers may be assigned to various shifts, including day, evening, night, or rotating schedules, which may involve weekends and holidays. As Emergency Essential Personnel, officers must be prepared to report for duty at any time to ensure the agency's continuous operation.

Key Duties Include:

  • Enforcing laws and regulations to safeguard personnel and state property.
  • Managing traffic flow, enforcing parking rules, investigating incidents, and issuing citations.
  • Documenting incidents with clear and accurate reports in line with agency protocols.
  • Conducting investigations into criminal activities to facilitate resolution and prosecution.
  • Making arrests and providing testimony in judicial proceedings.
  • Administering emergency first aid to individuals in need and stabilizing them until medical assistance arrives.
  • Responding to various situations, including disturbances and suspicious activities.
  • Performing additional duties as necessary to fulfill the agency's mission of providing law enforcement and security services.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Completion of high school or equivalent certification recognized by the Maryland State Board of Education.

Experience: A minimum of six months as a certified law enforcement officer.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • At least two years of experience as a Certified Law Enforcement Officer in Maryland.

Licenses and Certifications:

Candidates must possess a valid Police Officer certification as mandated by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission at the time of application.

Special Requirements:

Applicants must meet specific selection criteria, including:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Minimum age of 21 years
  • Successful completion of a background investigation
  • Passing a physical examination
  • Valid driver's license in Maryland
