Job Overview:

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the intern will engage in various semi-skilled tasks as assigned, utilizing hand tools, and supporting data collection, monitoring, and reporting on diverse environmental standards. The role involves employing sonar technology to evaluate the status of municipal utility assets and participating in stormwater outreach initiatives during community events.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include effective public interaction, collaboration with city personnel, and coordination with external organizations, while demonstrating patience, respect, and professionalism. Specific duties may include:
  • Exhibiting strong written and verbal communication skills during presentations, meetings, and correspondence;
  • Maintaining enthusiasm and energy while engaging with the community;
  • Conducting field reconnaissance to gather essential data;
  • Preparing preliminary reports;
  • Completing required training modules;
  • Working independently and collaboratively using sonar equipment to evaluate the condition of municipal utility assets;
  • Assisting in stormwater field assessments, mapping, and inspections;
  • Contributing to the development and revision of Standard Operating Procedures;
  • Supporting field mapping and GIS utility infrastructure documentation;
  • Assisting with research, data management systems, and filing;
  • Participating in public outreach events focused on education and communication regarding stormwater pollution prevention;
  • Helping with updates and compliance tracking for the Stormwater Quality Management Plan;
  • Engaging in other fieldwork as required;
  • Completing miscellaneous tasks as assigned.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
  • Ensuring tools, equipment, and workspaces are maintained in a clean and organized manner;
  • Reporting any irregularities or unusual conditions;
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

The intern is expected to manage their performance in alignment with this job description and the expectations set forth by management. If clarification is needed regarding roles or responsibilities, it is the intern's duty to refer to this description and seek guidance from their supervisor. Management will provide support as necessary to ensure that performance goals are clearly communicated and achieved.

SUPERVISORY ROLE

This position does not entail supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED);
  • Ability to comprehend work processes, methods, and the use of tools and machinery;
  • Capability to pass a post-offer agility assessment for this position.
LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

Ability to read and understand simple instructions, brief correspondence, and memos. Ability to write basic correspondence and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group settings to clients, customers, and colleagues.

MATH SKILLS

Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to execute detailed but straightforward written or oral instructions. Ability to address problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES

Valid driver's license is required.
