Job Overview:

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the intern will engage in semi-skilled labor as assigned, utilizing hand tools, and assisting in the collection of data, monitoring, and generating reports related to various environmental standards. The role involves employing sonar technology to evaluate the condition of municipal utility assets and participating in stormwater outreach initiatives during community events. The intern is expected to demonstrate sound judgment, independence, initiative, and professional expertise in daily operations. All tasks must adhere to safety protocols and regulations set forth by municipal and utility guidelines, as well as federal, state, and local laws.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include effective interaction with the public, municipal employees, and external agencies with patience, respect, and professionalism, along with the following duties. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed:
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills in various formats including presentations, meetings, phone calls, and emails;
  • Maintain a high level of energy and enthusiasm while engaging with the public;
  • Conduct field reconnaissance to gather essential data;
  • Prepare preliminary reports;
  • Complete the required training modules;
  • Work both independently and collaboratively using sonar equipment to assess the condition of municipal utility assets;
  • Assist in stormwater field investigations, mapping, and inspections of facilities;
  • Contribute to the development and revision of Standard Operating Procedures;
  • Support field mapping and GIS utility infrastructure mapping efforts;
  • Assist with general research, data tracking, and filing systems;
  • Participate in public outreach events, education, communication, and marketing initiatives for stormwater pollution prevention;
  • Support the update and compliance tracking of the Stormwater Quality Management Plan;
  • Assist with various fieldwork related to municipal utilities;
  • Complete miscellaneous assignments as required.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and workspaces in a clean and organized manner;
  • Report any irregularities or abnormal conditions;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group settings to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to perform basic mathematical operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY
