The Senior Internal Auditor plays a crucial role in the assessment and enhancement of operational, financial, regulatory, and compliance-related audits within the mortgage servicing and origination sectors. This position is pivotal in identifying potential risks, crafting audit scopes, executing testing protocols, and generating comprehensive reports. The auditor will concentrate on various functional units, conducting thorough operational, financial, regulatory, and compliance evaluations. Furthermore, this role advocates for robust internal controls and corporate governance principles throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth research and interpretation of legal statutes and regulations that inform Internal Audit objectives.
  • Execute operational, compliance, and regulatory audits across multiple departments.
  • Evaluate and derive conclusions regarding the effectiveness and efficiency of the control environment.
  • Identify, document, and analyze root causes for non-compliance, control deficiencies, and opportunities for improvement in a clear and professional manner.
  • Prepare audit findings and work papers in accordance with departmental procedures and IIA standards.
  • Engage in research on new topics as necessary to support audit activities.
  • Provide management with insights on risk-oriented improvement opportunities.
  • Recommend enhancements to internal audit standards and practices.
  • Conduct follow-up assessments and testing on the remediation of audit findings.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred.
  • CPA, CIA, or CISA certification is advantageous.
  • Advanced degree is a plus but not required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Access, Excel, Visio, Word, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with TeamMate Audit software is beneficial.

Skills and Competencies

  • Solid understanding of mortgage origination or servicing and risk-based auditing.
  • Knowledge of internal control concepts and their practical application.
  • Commitment to IIA standards, professionalism, integrity, and collaboration.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Capability to work independently and oversee auditors on projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
  • Experience in managing multiple audit projects and fostering team collaboration.
  • Able to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
