The Senior Internal Auditor plays a crucial role in the assessment and evaluation of operational, financial, regulatory, and compliance aspects of mortgage servicing and origination audits. This position is essential for recognizing potential risks, establishing the scope of internal audits, executing testing protocols, and compiling comprehensive reports. The auditor will concentrate on various functional units, ensuring thorough operational, financial, regulatory, and compliance evaluations. Furthermore, this role advocates for the principles of internal control and corporate governance within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth research and interpretation of legal statutes and regulations that inform Internal Audit objectives.
  • Execute operational, compliance, and regulatory audits across multiple departments.
  • Evaluate and draw insights regarding the effectiveness and efficiency of the control environment.
  • Identify, document, and analyze root causes for non-compliance, control deficiencies, and opportunities for enhancement in a clear and professional manner.
  • Prepare audit documentation and work papers in accordance with departmental procedures and IIA standards.
  • Engage in research on new topics as necessary to support audit activities.
  • Provide management with advice on risk-oriented improvement strategies.
  • Recommend enhancements to internal audit standards and methodologies.
  • Conduct follow-up assessments and testing on the remediation of audit findings.
  • Perform any additional related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.
  • CPA, CIA, or CISA certification is highly desirable.
  • Advanced degree is a plus but not required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is expected.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Access, Excel, Visio, Word, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with TeamMate Audit software is advantageous.

  • Solid understanding of mortgage origination or servicing and risk-based auditing principles.
  • Knowledge of internal control concepts and their practical application.
  • Commitment to IIA standards, professionalism, integrity, and collaboration.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Capability to work independently and oversee auditors on various projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
  • Experience in managing multiple audit projects and collaborating within teams.
  • Able to thrive in a cooperative team environment.
