About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Structural Engineer to join our team at HII Corp. Defunct. As a key member of our Submarine Engineering Advanced Capabilities team, you will play a critical role in the development of the next generation Fast-Attack Submarine, SSN(X) submarine program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze and develop structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs.
  • Conduct damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling.
  • Develop and implement structural engineering solutions to meet project requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate structural engineering with other ship systems and interfaces.
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to junior engineering staff.
  • Present technical information to senior leadership, Navy, and government technical warrant holders and SME's.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • 9 years of relevant exempt experience; Master's Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience; Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of submarine engineering and design requirements, internal ship structure, foundations, and platform arrangement for submarines.
  • Ability to apply technical principles, theories, and concepts, in the field of structural design and analysis.
  • Experience in working in a collaborative environment to integrate the many ship systems and structural interfaces, with teams of engineers and designers of varying disciplines.
  • Strong communication skills, particularly technical writing.
  • Working knowledge and utilization of software applications such as FEMAP, Abaqus, Teamcenter, Hypermesh, ATIS, DDMS, and MatLab.
