The Role

The Submarine Engineering Advanced Capabilities team is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to contribute to the development of the next-generation Fast-Attack Submarine program.

This position offers a chance to influence the future of the Navy's premier attack submarine platform. The selected engineer will manage multiple projects and provide mentorship to junior engineering staff, as well as present findings to senior leadership and technical experts.

Responsibilities include analyzing, researching, and developing structural engineering specifications for various materials used in product design, including mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and maintenance systems. The role also involves assessing damage tolerance, durability, and structural modeling.

Qualifications

Must Have:
- Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience;
- Master's Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience;
- Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Preferred Skills

- Familiarity with submarine engineering and design requirements.
- Ability to apply technical principles in structural design and analysis.
- Experience collaborating with diverse engineering teams is desirable.
- Strong communication skills, particularly in technical writing.

Software Proficiency:
- Experience with FEMAP, Abaqus, Teamcenter, Hypermesh, and MatLab is advantageous.
- Willingness to learn legacy software systems is a plus.
