Job Overview

The Surgical Appointment Coordinator plays a vital role in the efficient management of patient scheduling for both routine and complex medical procedures, including surgeries and associated therapies as directed by healthcare providers. This position involves gathering essential patient and procedural details while guiding patients through the necessary preparations for their surgical interventions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organizes patient appointments in accordance with surgical and procedural directives.
  • Effectively communicates procedural details and patient instructions to patients and their families, ensuring clarity regarding financial responsibilities.
  • Collaborates with healthcare providers to address scheduling needs and to distribute relevant educational resources to patients.
  • Facilitates the transmission of physician orders for procedures to relevant medical facilities as necessary.
  • Coordinates surgical schedules within designated time blocks at affiliated hospitals as per physician requests.
  • Maintains punctual and accurate schedules, promptly notifying support staff of any delays or cancellations.
  • Monitors physician requests throughout the operational day.
  • Directs scheduling challenges to the appropriate authority and offers solutions for resolution.
  • Adheres to organizational policies and HIPAA regulations to safeguard patient confidentiality.
  • Assists with additional operational tasks as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a healthcare environment.
  • At least 1 year of experience in scheduling surgeries or procedures is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ICD-9 and CPT coding, along with a solid understanding of medical terminology, is advantageous.
  • Proficient in MS Excel or other scheduling software.
