The Patient Support Specialist serves as a crucial link between healthcare providers and patients. This role involves:
- Welcoming patients and ensuring their information is accurately recorded in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Coordinating follow-up appointments and collecting necessary co-pays.
- Providing education on available programs such as Lab, Radiology, Pharmacy, Case Management, Behavioral Health, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, and Quick Care.
Patient Support Specialists are trained to:
- Verify insurance details and maintain up-to-date patient documentation.
- Utilize a multi-line phone system effectively.
- Ensure a positive patient experience through attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills.
This position requires the ability to manage various tasks simultaneously while maintaining a courteous and cooperative demeanor. Strong attention to detail, initiative, and excellent communication skills are essential.
Additionally, the Patient Support Specialist must demonstrate compassion and understanding when interacting with patients and their families, particularly those with special healthcare needs. All patient information must be handled with the utmost confidentiality.
In emergency situations, the Specialist is expected to recognize the urgency and notify the appropriate medical personnel, while also providing assistance to other healthcare providers as needed.
