GENERAL OVERVIEW:
The State of Wyoming is on the lookout for a Wildlife Conservation Program Supervisor to lead initiatives in wildlife management. This role involves overseeing and guiding wildlife-related projects executed by both permanent and temporary staff.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for strategizing, managing, and executing studies focused on the population trends of various wildlife species, collaborating with management to assess hunting regulations, engaging with community stakeholders, and promoting habitat enhancement efforts.

The Wildlife Conservation Program Supervisor position presents a distinctive chance to participate in field data collection, work alongside a diverse group of professionals, supervise a vibrant team of wildlife and habitat specialists, and carry out practical management actions aimed at benefiting wildlife.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following responsibilities are illustrative and not exhaustive of all tasks that may be performed in this role.


Oversees and engages in wildlife and habitat field data collection, analysis, management recommendations, and annual reporting on various species in the designated region.

Manages and directs the activities of district wildlife specialists and a terrestrial habitat expert (often from a distance).
Facilitates the development of regional hunting seasons and wildlife regulations for multiple species based on scientific data and community feedback.
Collaborates to identify wildlife research priorities and conducts advanced scientific investigations, including planning for wildlife capture.
Solicits project proposals and prepares grant applications for wildlife research and management.

Regularly reviews and provides feedback on projects proposed by external agencies and private sectors to evaluate and mitigate potential impacts on wildlife populations and habitats.

Composes and revises comprehensive technical, investigative, and scientific documentation.
Addresses public inquiries regarding wildlife or habitat management concerns.
Coordinates and assists with resolving human-wildlife conflicts, including the use of chemical immobilization.

Develops and manages budgets for wildlife and habitat specialists within the region, ensuring compliance with fiscal protocols and accurately completing all required documentation.

Engages and communicates with federal, state, and other governmental bodies within the region.
Recommends hiring, disciplinary actions, and termination decisions; conducts annual performance evaluations; provides training for team members and public entities.
Creates strategic plans to achieve objectives related to wildlife management in the designated area.
Leads internal working groups, committees, and initiatives.

Assists in implementing the strategic plan of the agency and other planning documents aimed at addressing future wildlife and public needs within the assigned area.

Collaborates with other regional wildlife coordinators on wildlife management and research for statewide decision-making and priority setting.

PREFERENCES/AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:


Preference may be given to candidates with a Bachelor's degree in Wildlife Management/Biology, along with 4-6 years of relevant experience in Wildlife Management, or a Master's degree in Wildlife Management/Biology with 2-3 years of relevant experience.

**A valid driver's license is required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Advanced understanding of wildlife and habitat management principles, concepts, and practices.
General knowledge of vegetation identification, rangeland ecology, and habitat treatment strategies.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex wildlife management concepts to diverse audiences.
Ability to collaborate with federal, state, and local agencies on intricate wildlife management challenges.
Familiarity with state government processes, including legislative and administrative frameworks.
Understanding of policies and procedures established for the work system, gained through extensive on-the-job experience.

Intermediate knowledge of management practices, including budget development, personnel management, and administrative responsibilities.

General awareness of the NEPA process, impact analysis, environmental comment formulation, and available mitigation strategies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
Bachelor's Degree (typically in Wildlife Management)

Experience: 1-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Wildlife Management)

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
CDL may be required OR Education & Experience Substitution: 4-7 years of progressive work experience (typically in Wildlife Management)
