Job Overview

The Surgical Procedure Coordinator plays a vital role in the healthcare system by managing and organizing patient appointments for both routine and complex surgical interventions, along with associated therapeutic procedures as directed by the healthcare provider. This position involves gathering patient and procedural details and providing guidance to patients regarding their surgical preparation and responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organizes patient appointments based on surgical and procedural directives.
  • Effectively communicates procedure details and patient instructions in a timely manner to patients and their families, including any financial responsibilities.
  • Collaborates with healthcare providers regarding scheduling and necessary educational resources for patients.
  • Submits physician orders for procedures to relevant medical facilities as needed.
  • Coordinates surgeries and procedures within designated surgical time slots at affiliated medical centers as requested by the physician.
  • Ensures that schedules are accurate and timely, and promptly communicates any delays or cancellations to support staff.
  • Monitors physician requests throughout the day to ensure timely responses.
  • Refers scheduling challenges to the appropriate authority and offers recommendations for resolution.
  • Adheres to organizational and HIPAA regulations to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Assists with additional operational tasks as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a healthcare environment.
  • At least 1 year of experience in scheduling surgeries or procedures is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ICD-9 and CPT Coding, along with a working knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Excel or other scheduling software.
