About the Role

LAist is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to join our team as the Vice President, Underwriting and Sponsorship Sales. This critical leadership role is responsible for driving revenue growth and developing a multi-platform sales strategy that maximizes our radio, digital, podcasts, live events, and social platforms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Execute Sales Strategy: Create and implement a comprehensive sales strategy that aligns with the company's overall growth objectives.
  • Lead and Mentor Sales Team: Lead, mentor, and scale a high-performing sales team to exceed revenue targets and deliver exceptional client service.
  • Culture Creation and Team Development: Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging professional growth and a collaborative environment within the team.
  • Market Trends and Analysis: Maintain a deep understanding of the digital advertising landscape, identifying and anticipating trends, challenges, and opportunities for innovation.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, product, and analytics, to ensure cohesive and consistent strategies and maximize revenue opportunities.
  • Client and Stakeholder Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, partners, and industry stakeholders.
  • Revenue Growth and Budgeting: Establish underwriting revenue goals for the company and prepare departmental budgets.
  • Day-to-Day Sales Strategy: Manage day-to-day sales strategy implementation, execution, promotions, decisions, and act on plans and directly participate in client or agency sales presentations.
  • Product Development and Pricing: Develop, present, and execute sales projections and plans, and manage the development and continuous improvement of internal and external product packages.
  • Client Service and Support: Provide technical guidance to resolve problems and build strong lasting relationships with clients and agencies, solidifying LAist's role in the communities of companies that share our audience and vision.
  • Staff Management and Development: Hire, supervise, train, and manage direct staff through coaching, mentorship, performance meetings, and ongoing feedback, and involve HR on performance issues as needed.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Foster a creative and productive work environment, create development opportunities, and individualized development plans for staff and training to enhance skills and foster growth.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree or combination of education and experience required. Minimum 8-10 years of experience in media sales and management, with supervisory/management experience required.
  • Business Acumen and Strategic Thinking: Strong business acumen and strategic thinking ability, with a hands-on approach to tackling challenges.
  • Leadership and Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrated leadership qualities of presence, confidence, judgment, and integrity, with excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Technical Skills: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, sales tools, including Arbitron, and audience research tools and metrics.
