Position Overview

The Senior Vice President, Director of Tax at The Whittier Trust Company is responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of high net worth clients. This role necessitates significant client interaction and a comprehensive understanding of fiduciary account management, including trust administration, securities, finance, real estate, taxation, and estate planning. A key objective for this position is to foster new business opportunities through independent efforts and collaboration with internal teams, leveraging professional networks and direct outreach to potential clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Tax Department, which consists of a skilled team dedicated to providing exceptional tax services.
  • Collaborate closely with Client Advisors to deliver tax projections, alerts, summaries, and strategic advice tailored to client needs.
  • Manage the tax preparation function, ensuring compliance and accuracy in the preparation of complex tax returns for ultra-high net worth individuals and entities.
  • Lead the tax advisory services, developing tax models, drafting alerts regarding tax law changes, and creating comprehensive tax planning presentations.
  • Supervise the production of brokerage 1099 forms and IRA documentation, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure efficient tax processing and timely payments for clients, working with the Tax Processing Administrator to meet deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; a Master's degree in Taxation or a Juris Doctorate is preferred.
  • CPA certification is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, preferably within a Big Four accounting firm.
  • Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws affecting trusts, individuals, and pass-through entities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint, and OneDrive.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
